The Relationship between Background Music, Emotion and Duration of Stay in cafes & Restaurants

As always with research into the use of music in cafes and restaurants it’s critical to test the right music for the right audience. “Satisfaction, delight, browsing and spending time” are all impacted if you get the right music to match your customers.

Of course when you have a full mix of customers its going to be risky deciding what music to use but the best approach is to not get too specific, avoid well known music that may, in some customers provide a positive experience while in others, the opposite.

Generic music that follows a style and mood work better than well know artists who will additionally evoke emotions customers may have connected with that specific piece of music.

This is the argument for using music that isn’t well known and is designed to follow a general style of genre and more importantly, put into mixes that evoke a specific mood. Which is where Melody Pods enters and offers perfect examples of mood styles of music that aren’t well known and won’t give customers the emotional kicks you may not want to supply them.

There’s some great research if you want to do some digging yourself but that’s what you pay a music service provider to do (yes I have the research and the short run prints to prove it!) .
